Songkhla is a coastal province and an important port in southern Thailand. Hat Yai, the main city in the province, is the economic, cultural and transportation center of southern Thailand. The entire region is located in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west. It has 14 prefectures and 116 counties under its jurisdiction. The natural scenery is very beautiful and the tourism is developing rapidly. Phuket, Samui and other places within its jurisdiction are world-famous tourist attractions. Rich in various tropical fruits and fish resources, and fishery products are processed on a certain scale. In addition, southern Thailand is also the main production area for the processing industries of rubber, rubber wood, oil palm, tin, and aquatic products. The output and export volume of natural rubber ranks among the top in the world.
In recent years, under the promotion of the Chinese and Thai governments, the economic and trade cooperation between China and Southern Thailand has developed rapidly. At present, China has become the main export market of natural rubber products in Southern Thailand, and Chinese consumer products are occupying a considerable market share. Bilateral economic and trade cooperation still has great potential, especially in infrastructure investment and construction. With the expansion of Phuket International Airport and Songkhla Port, coastal wind power and other large projects, which have been approved by the Thai government and entered the formal operation stage, the southern Thailand area will usher in a new period of rapid development, providing good opportunities for Chinese investing enterprises.
